Uluru FAQ
Our Uluru helicopter flights do not directly fly over Uluru. No flights are permitted to fly over Uluru as it is protected land as it holds great cultural significance to the Indigenous people of Australia. As our Uluru helicopter flights do operate on and above sacred land, we ensure we follow all protocol to ensure we are showing our respect to the original custodians of the land as well as the land itself.
Uluru is the world’s largest single rock monolith that is located practically in the centre of Australia. Uluru stands at 348 metres above ground and is made from arkose – a coarse-grained sandstone rich in mineral feldspar. The monolith extends to a massive 6 kilometres below ground and has a total circumference of 9.6 kilometres. Although we don’t know exactly, Uluru and Kata Tjuta were believed to have formed over 550,000 million years ago, making it one of the world’s oldest natural landmarks.
If you ask us, any time is a good time for an Uluru helicopter flight! In all seriousness, the best time to visit Uluru is from May until the end of September each year. This is the dry season so it is highly unlikely that your view will be affected by rainy weather and the cooler temperatures are much more comfortable to experience. As for the time of day, it doesn’t matter when you choose to fly, Uluru is guaranteed to take your breath away.
At Professional Helicopter Services our top priority is providing an exceptional experience at a budget-friendly cost. We don’t want anyone to have to miss out on an Uluru helicopter experience due to budget restrictions. Our large variety of Uluru helicopter flights ensures that you’ll be able to find a suitable flight for your budget. Whether you’re interested in an Uluru helicopter flight only or want to see other amazing landmarks such as Kata Tjuta, Lake Amadeus, or Kings Canyon, you will find the perfect helicopter flight for your holiday.
You are not permitted to climb Uluru. In previous years you were able to climb Uluru but that was permanently stopped in October of 2019. The primary reason to close the Uluru rock climb was due to the spiritual significance of the site that was being disturbed due to climbers. Although respecting Indigenous culture was the most important reason for closing the Uluru climb, by closing the climb it also helps minimise environmental issues such as erosion along with safety concerns of the climb.
Out of respect for its cultural significance, we do not fly directly over Uluru. However, our tours are carefully designed to provide incredible, uninterrupted views of Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and the stunning surrounding landscapes, ensuring a truly unforgettable experience.
All tours depart from our conveniently located Town Square Helipad within the Ayers Rock Resort. We also offer complimentary hotel pick-up and drop-off from major accommodations in the area, ensuring a hassle-free experience from start to finish.

We make every effort to provide all passengers with fantastic views, but window seats are allocated based on weight distribution for safety. Rest assured, our pilots plan the routes so everyone gets a clear view of Uluru and Kata Tjuta at different points during the flight.
We monitor weather conditions closely to ensure a safe and enjoyable flight. If weather impacts your tour, we’ll work with you to reschedule or provide a full refund. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities.
